Artist Statement

Eliza Bourner’s photography is highly driven by her fascination with social behaviour in contemporary culture such as celebrity, religion and emotional disconnect. Through producing staged fine art portraits and still life photographs, she creates a world suspended between reality and fiction responding to the relentless ideals of perfection and positivity that today’s society encourages, leading to anxiety and exhaustion in the postmodern individual. Often meta-referencing the photograph itself, she explores its currency in the temporality of the digital era.
